SKEDE, MURDER ON THE BEACH
IN production
Buried beneath the white sands of Šķēde, on the Baltic Sea, lie the bodies of 2,749 Jewish women and children from Liepāja, Latvia, murdered in December 1941 by Nazi SS forces and Latvian collaborators. Their story was all but forgotten had it not been for the discovery of twelve photographs depicting the “special action”. Taken by a Nazi officer, the images capture the victims' final moments before execution. Survivor Edward Anders later identified those depicted. SKEDE, Murder on the Beach is both a testimonial film and a historical thriller, bringing to life the extraordinary story of the photographs and the tragic fate of Liepāja's Jewish community.
